CotaiTripping (Part 2): City of Dreams, Galaxy Megaresort, MGM Cotai Theory
If you haven't read Part 1 of this walk you might want to Do so first.
I continued walking northward to the other side of the traffic circle near where one of the entrances of Melco/PBL's City of Dreams projects will be located.
City of Dreams
City of Dreams is being built by Melco/PBL the same group of casino sub-concessionaires that built Crown Macau, and for this reason I'm super duper psyched to see what they've got up their sleeves. The original plans for the joint included the first casino that was to be underwater, however the water theme has been scrapped. City Of Dreams will play host to a Hard Rock Branded hotel and casino. Construction has just begun to go vertical, the foundations have been poured, posts drilled and the beginning outlines of some of the buildings are beginning to take shape, primitively.
I continued my walk westward towards the Galaxy MegaResort and the massive plot of land that Galaxy owns in Cotai. Their chunk of spinach goes from the yellow line to the west of the Venetian all the way to the Galaxy Grand Waldo on the western end of Cotai. Currently the only parts that are under construction is the northwest corner. The hotel tower is topped off and a bunch of the back of house and what is presumably shopping and entertainment areas are taking shape. Too bad the name sucks and it looks like Dracula bought Excalibur - Exdracula? Draculacalibur? As silly as they are, they're a helluva lot better than "Mega Resort".
Side Bar: MGM Cotai?
I doubled back eastward then took a right to go south on the service road behind the Venetian's West Entrance that runs behind the physical plant and the Venetian's convention center. To the west is all Galaxy owned property. Or maybe not? MGMMirage is also planning on building in Cotai, like Wynn, the property location has yet to be revealed. When I pressed MGMMirage PR Manager Lytton Ao during our meeting about MGMGrand, he confirmed they were working on a project for Cotai but pretty much left it at that. I tried my best to squeeze it out of him, but he's such a nice guy I didn't want to get out the lead pipe. Or the candlestick. Or the rope. In the study. Professer Plum. All Parker Brothers nonsense aside, it's plausable - probably not possible - that MGM might be building on Galaxy's land. That specific corner kinda sucks though as there is no foot access to Venetian from there. However up at the north eastern corner might work as that is where Venetian's shuttle entrance is located and would provide a contiguous east to west Venetian, MGM, Galaxy murderers row. I'd guess that MGM is going to be out towards the water with Wynn.
