Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to the Cotai Strip (Under Construction)

On the way from Crown to Venetian, the taxi driver took me the long way around through Cotai... probably to get a higher fare. It was all good though because thats exactly what I wanted to do anyways... take a quick drive around the Cotai Strip. The Cotai Strip area is quite a bit larger than I thought it would be, and nearly every plot of land has some kind of construction going on and some are further along than others. On the way, I scoped out the Galaxy Megaresort to see how far along they are. The Galaxy Megaresort (what a lousy name!) is owned by the same folks who own StarWorld. They are building a massive project in multiple stages that will occupy pretty much the north west quadrant of the Cotai Strip. They appear to have topped off their hotel tower and are building some of the outlying structures.

Prior to seeing this with my own three eyeballs, I thought walking from the west end of Cotai (Galaxy Grand Waldo) to the east side (Venetian) would be doable. It isn't. Granted, the atmosphere on Taipa/Cotai is noticeable less humid than in Macau, but I can't see people walking that far to go to another casino.

The Cotai Strip is a brand new master planned casino resort district that was masterminded by Sheldon Adelson and the Las Vegas Sands Corporation. The Cotai Strip is built on reclaimed land that used to the bay between Taipa and Coloane islands. Anchored by the Venetian Macao, the Cotai Strip will feature no less than 11 resorts in the next 8-10 years. Currently, only the Venetian is open, however the Galaxy Megaresort (Galaxy), City of Dreams (Crown), Four Seasons, Shangri-La/Traders, Macau Studio City and the Sheraton/St. Regis are in varous stages of construction.

and on this side of the street: Far East Consortium (behind the cranes), Four Seasons (green)

I snapped and sewed together a bunch of photos from the window of my suite to give y'all some perspective as to what the Cotai Strip is going to look like and also offer some of you gaming industry nerds (including myself) a status report. Click on the image to launch a larger version.

I just finished my room service blunchfast, got my coffee fix and have done a little chilling. I was up until about 5:30am last night and had to get up at 10 to cooperate with Crown Macau's 11am check out time. In all honesty, I just want to get in bed and take a nice long nap, but I gotta get out there and take some pics of these construction sites before the sun goes down. Then its Venetian Macau mania for the rest of the day. I'm going to post some quick pix of my room before I head out.

That vibe has to be nuts out there.
