Wynn Palace Cotai Postponed... For The Seventh Time

Speaking at a gambling conference at The Mirage in Las Vegas, Wynn Resorts CEO Steve Wynn, announced yet another new date for the grand opening of Wynn Palace Cotai. This is the seventh time the grand opening date for Wynn Palace Cotai has been changed.

Wynn Palace was originally planned to open roughly before Lunar New Year festivities in 2016(1). As construction continued and the exterior was being cladded, Wynn issued the first firm date... a postponement... to June 25, 2016 (2). In fall of 2015, construction contractor Leighton notified Wynn that the building would be completed early and Wynn set a new opening date, March 25, 2016 (3). Three months later, Leighton alerted Wynn that they wouldn't hit the early date and opening was moved back to June 25, 2016 (4). Earlier this year, Wynn stated that the June date was soft but do able stating that opening would indeed be on or around the end of June - "give or take a few weeks." (5) Two months ago, at an investor conference, Wynn casually stated that the opening of Wynn Palace was to be pushed back again. Despite hot mic protestations from Wynn CFO Matt Maddox, Steve Wynn then stated that August 8th was the new opening day (6).

Wynn now says that Wynn Palace Cotai will open on August 22, 2016, pushed back approximately two weeks from previously announced August 8th (7).

Eighth time is a charm!

Big thanks to The Admiral for the tip.
