Cotai Construction Update March 2008 - City Of Dreams

Our roving reporter AceMacau has generously kicked down even more killer photos of Cotai construction. Thanks Ace for hooking up these great pics.

First up is City of Dreams which will be having a topping out ceremony in April, which will coincide with an announcement of lots of City of Dreams' goodies and features. Phase I of City of Dreams is scheduled to open in March/April 2009. They expect Crown Towers, Hard Rock tower, the casino and retail components to be open at that time. It may take a little bit of time for all shops inside City of Dreams' retail promenade to ready their offerings.

Phase II will consist of the Grand Hyatt towers, and a fourth tower featuring 800 serviced apartments/suites. The serviced suites are still in the design and development phase and they have yet to select a partner brand to co-manage these. Price points for these managed suites are also still being decided as well.

City Of Dreams Marquee

The marquee of City of Dreams. I'll guess that various light boards will be attached to the metal frame here. Some of the letters look to be cockeyed, I'm sure this will be fixed.

City Of Dreams

Wow. City of Dreams is really starting to look like like a hotel now. The vision of lead designer Architechtonica is slowly coming to life. To the left is Crown Tower, the cylindrical tower is Hard Rock, the tower way in the back is the dual Grand Hyatt towers.

If you look closer you'll see a sphere shaped structure between the Crown tower and the Hard Rock. Lots of folks have asked what that thing is, and we're happy to break it here... it's a full sensory entertainment attraction with a 10 minute light/sound show on the inside, somewhat in the vein of the Fremont Street Experience concept, but different. The projections are done by LED lighting with surround sound inside the dome.

Crown Tower

Crown Tower is not only topping out, but the glass skin is being tacked on as it goes up. The interior of Crown Tower was designed by design firm Bates Smart.

Hard Rock

Hard Rock is starting to take shape. Much like the Crown Tower the curtain wall is going up along with the tower enabling crews to begin installing fixtures and eventually all the furniture and whatnot. I'm quite confident that Hard Rock has ample time to be ready for opening in April 2009. You can see the octagonal rotating lips that we described in an earlier post.

Hard Rock's interior was designed by Gettys. We've got photos and our attempt at reverse engineering floorplans in a previous post.

Hard Rock, Crown Towers and Grand Hyatt will all share one large casino. There will not be a specifically branded Hard Rock casino on premises, although there may be sections that are more rocking than others.

Thanks again to Ace for sharing his photos with us. You rule!

On a side note, I'm almost embarrassed to say that nobody has made a donation to the Trip Tip jar. I'm not going to list the reasons why you should support this site, if you're reading this, then you already know why. That venti cup of Starbucks on your desk? Yeah that one. How about skipping one a month for the team and help us keep this thing alive.
