Updated Cotai Map - Wynn Cotai, MGM Cotai, MegaBox, Hello Kitty and More
I finally got around to updating the casino map of the Cotai Strip based on a bunch of new information that I've triangulated from various sources.
Based on a bunch of research as well as investor presentations from a bunch of companies involved in Macau casino operating and construction, I think we can pretty much say that 'this is it' although there will probably be periodic updates and changes.
Most notably, our previous guesses about the location of Wynn and MGM Cotai projects, were only slightly off base. Wynn Cotai will be located on the east coast of reclaimed Cotai, nestled between Macau University to the north, Macau Dome to the south and City of Dreams and the MGM Cotai plot to the west. The 54 acre Wynn Cotai plot will consist of four hotel towers one of which will be a "Taiwanese Guest House". Three casinos will service the four hotels on the massive Wynn Cotai plot. Wynn Resorts had been talking to Ferrari - the Italian luxury hot rod dealer - about using Ferrari brand on one of the hotel towers. Wynn Cotai will also feature convention center and a large retail component.
MGM Cotai plot will be on the east side of 'hotel row' and be accessible by roads on three sides. It will be located just south of City of Dreams, west of Wynn Cotai and north of a small walking park.
Two new additions to the map - MegaBox and a partnership between Shun Tak and SJM are slated for two parcels south of MGM plot, just east of the south block of 'hotel row', west of the Macau Dome.
Hong Kong real estate operator Kerry Properties has acquired an interest in the parcel upon which they will most likely build a second MegaBox, which is a large shopping mall/hotel property which opened in Kowloon Hong Kong a month or so ago. Kerry Properties has not made public announcement of any specifics, but have noted Macau investment on their website.
The ShunTak/SJM partnership - which will be something along the lines of the Mandarin Oriental II (adjacent to MGM Grand Macau) - was originally planned to be 'Cotai-adjacent' but they arranged a land swap deal with the Macau government. Various reports have said that this property is 'on hold' until there is demonstrated demand on Cotai and the onslaught of hotel room supply has been absorbed. I'll bet they're going to be waiting for a looong time - probably 2015 or later before the shovels hit the dirt.
Two other parcels on the south eastern quadrant of Cotai have been identified - a Hello Kitty themed resort which is a partnership between a Japanese and Hong Kong development companies and a parcel to the north which is currently unidentified. Possible players could be Virgin, Genting, Elad, Planet Hollywood or a non-gaming hotel entity.
Currently, very little beyond "there will be a Hello Kitty themed resort/entertainment center" is known about the project. I'll opine that - if this even happens - we won't see the anime pussy on Cotai for quite a while, at least until Cotai evolves beyond a gambling destination.
