Breaking: MGM Grand Macau Inks Deal With Cirque du Soleil

We've received an insider tip that a deal to bring the third artsy abstract acrobatics show to Macau has been done between Cirque du Soleil and MGM Grand Macau. The details of the deal have yet to be made public, as soon as we know, you'll know.

Previously, the Venetian Macao has contracted a Cirque du Soleil extravaganza, due for opening in 2009. Former Cirque du Soleil Director (and the man responsible for the initial visions of 'Le Reve' at Wynn Las Vegas and recently departed 'A New Day... with Celine Dion') Franco Dragone is also scheduled to open a show as part of Phase II construction at Cotai's City of Dreams project.

The announcement of a third Cirque show bodes well for the future of the Macau/Cotai experiment, and its planned transformation from down-n-dirty gamblin' town to true entertainment destination. No disrespect to the folks who run Cirque du Soleil, but they are essentially a large scale corporate barnacle... if there are whales, they will attach.

All this talk about entertainment makes me truly sad I missed the Air Supply show at the Venetian in September *sniff*.
