Gambler Murders Loan Shark Middle Man, Attempts to Burn Down Venetian Macao

The Macau Daily Times is reporting that the Venetian Macao has experienced a rash of criminal mischief this week, including a fire at the hotel and the first murder on the Cotai Strip.

From what I can gather, the story goes something like this:

The victim, a 39 year old woman from mainland China - Mrs. Liang, acted as middle man between a loan shark and 38 year old Mr. Tan. Apparently, Mr. Tan lost his 200,000 pataca loan at the casino and he and Mrs. Liang returned to the 18th floor room to take a break from the casino. Mr. Tan strangled Mrs. Liang when she fell asleep then set fire to the room and fled the scene. Mrs. Liang's heart beat was revived for a short time at the hospital, but she fell into a coma and died two days later. The same day Mr. Tan was arrested by Customs officials while trying to escape to Mainland China.

Mr. Tan will be charged will arson and murder... 25 years in the pokey.

Comments & Discussion:

A terrible thing to happen however I think we can expect more "happenings" like this as New Casino Competition hots up and becomes more agressive. There will be Casino winners and losers over the coming years, it will be interesting to see how the losing Casino's "React" to being beaten by smarter operators. 50% of Macau casino's will do well and the others will struggle or always be playing catch up. Every casino needs traffic to survive.......70-80% of the gaming traffic will go to 50% of casinos. IMO
