Galaxy Hosts Macau's First Major Poker Tournament

Sparking what will probably be the beginning of a poker boom, Galaxy Grand Waldo hosted the first major poker tournament in Macau.

341 players entered the Cotai stop of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) with Din Le a Vietnamese man who lives in Birmingham, England taking home the title and US$224,640 in winnings. 2005 World Series of Poker champ Joe Hachem made it to the final table as well, finishing 8th (US$32,384).

With very few poker tables in Macau, I've got to wonder if there were any high-stakes side games at Galaxy StarWorld or other properties in Macau and if a large contingent of the players stayed at the nearby Venetian Macao.

A US$15,000 buy-in high roller tournament is scheduled for today that will include a number of the big names in poker including Barry Greenstein, Scotty Nguyen, Joe Hachem and John Juanda. The high roller tournament is being taped for airing on TV stations in the future.

A Fantastic Blog. I am a keen reader and look forward to commenting on your cutting edge posts. I have been to Macau Several times and the property market excites me as much as the gaming potential. Over supply worries me but i guess these guys know what theyre doing.good call on the galaxy shares ; )

Welcome aboard MacauVIP! Thanks for your pat on the back. There's definitely a lot more stuff in the queue which I'm hoping to tackle along with the Vegas, CityBoom and GlobalTripping blogs I'm trying to juggle. Bite off more than you can chew lately? It looks like Galaxy has dipped to just under 8 bucks a share... might be time to snap up another batch for the long haul. MPEL seems to have added a coupla bucks in the last day or two, but it's just going to go up over the long term.
