Macau Casinos May Raise Minimum Age To 21

Macau Chief Executive Edmund Ho discussed the possibility of raising the minimum age for entry to Macau's casinos to 21 that would address some of the "social costs" of the booming casino industry. This not only includes gamblers but people leaving school to take jobs as dealers.

Those opposed to the change in gaming statutes charged that raising the minimum age would shift young gamblers urge to wager from the casino to the ponies, dogs or the sports book.

I'm not really sure of the specific demographic of Macau's gamblers, but I'm reasonably confident that losing a sprinkling of college fund leftovers from 18-21 year olds won't affect the bottom line. In fact it will probably increase it, since Dad won't have to keep one eyeball over his shoulder so the kids don't catch him shagging hookers at the Hotel Lisboa.
