MGM Grand Macau Preview (Part 1) : Renderings, Models, and the Grande Praca
Exclusive Photos of MGM Grand Macau's Architectural Models
While visiting Macau, I was honored to meet with Lytton Ao, Marketing Manager from MGM Grand Paradise Limited, to talk about the soon-to-open MGM Grand Macau. MGM Grand Paradise Limited is a partnership between MGMMirage, U.S. based gaming and entertainment company and Pansy Ho, who supplied the sub-concession she received from her father Dr. Stanley Ho. MGM Grand Paradise Limited is currently planning two resorts in Macau, one for an as yet unidentified property on the Cotai Strip, and another, the MGM Grand Macau, which is currently finishing up construction on reclaimed land in downtown Macau, adjacent to Wynn Macau.
MGM Grand Macau's architecture is inspired by "the rolling swell of the ocean surf," at least that's what the marketing description says. A more accurate explanation for the wavy construction would probably be an architectural homage to the cobblestone walkways in Macau's central Praça do Leal Senado. The design of the dark gray stones is not only similar to the MGM Grand Macau's curvy hotel tower, but a dead ringer for some of what's inside the resort as well. More on that later...
